Robert Oakes, JD, MBA, has been active in the ADR field for over 15 years. He has mediated all types of cases, including multi-party public policy disputes, land-use planning, employment, contract, and personal injury. Mr. Oakes teaches an undergraduate course in Conflict Management and Negotiation at CSU-Sacramento. As an adjunct professor at the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, he has taught ADR and trial skills. He designed the forward-thinking and highly publicized CADRe program that institutionalizes ADR within the Santa Barbara Superior Court, where he also served as a Settlement Judge Pro Tem and developed and conducted the initial Neutral Evaluator training for Santa Barbara. Mr. Oakes made headlines as the lead counsel for the Mediation Center of San Joaquin County in the appellate case of Rinaker v. Superior Court, the first California appellate case to address mediator confidentiality. He also conducted a thorough study of the Early Neutral Evaluation Program in the California Eastern District Federal Court. |
