I was a practicing lawyer in Los Angeles from January 1956-February,
1994, handling complex business and employment law disputes as a senior
partner at O'Melveny & Myers. I was a fellow of the American College
of Trial Lawyers and American College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
Also, I was involved in the forefront of the mediation dispute resolution
movement as the initial Chair of the California Dispute Resolution
Advisory Council (1987-1988), which adopted regulations implementing
the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act establishing a statewide
system of locally funded programs which provide dispute resolution
services [primarily conciliation and mediation] to county residents.
Since I became a full time neutral mediator in 1994, I have been President
and Board of Directors member of Dispute Resolution Services, Inc.,
and a member of Board of Directors of the California Dispute Resolution
Council. I was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to the Milton Marks
Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy,
and by President George Bush to the National Commission for Employment
Policy. I am a member of ABA Dispute Resolution Section, and was Chairman,
ABA Labor and Employment Law Section from 1981-1982. I was a delegate
to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference from 1984-1987 and President
of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government, Claremont McKenna
College from 1975-1983. I was a member of Scripps College Board o
f Trustees and Executive Committee from 1974-1987, a member, Claremont
University Center Board of Fellows from 1974-1987, a member, Children's
Hospital of Los Angeles, Board of Directors and Executive Committee
from 1982-1987. In 1998 I received the Griffin B. Bell Volunteer Service
Award of Dispute Resolution Services, Inc., and was listed by the
Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the 100 most influential attorneys
in California. I am a Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators. |
