Following graduating with a B.A. in Political Science from UCSB in 1970 Mr. Lowe spent over three years traveling around the world. During that time he learned many of the communication skills that make him such an effective mediator today. Mr. Lowe formed a clothing company dealing in international products known as "Thin Air" upon his return to Santa Barbara. That company continued for over twenty five years and provided a rich training ground for negotiation skills and problem solving. After taking part in a mediation in 1995 Mr. Lowe took a 30 hour mediation training course and became active in Small Claims Court mediations over the next 5 years. The varied types of disputes in Small Claims Court gave him the ability to be flexible and adapt his mediation style to the appropriate tone to help achieve resolution for the parties. In 1996 Mr. Lowe began law school. He received his J.D. in 2000, and was admitted to the State Bar in June of 2000. Mr. Lowe mediated cases in Ventura Superior Court in 1998 and 1999. He has mediated several challenging civil harassment restraining order cases in Santa Barbara Superior Court. He has also taken the training and conducted juvenile "victim-offender" mediations. Additionally, conducting a wide variety of civil mediations from his private practice as well as through the Community Mediation Program has made Mr. Lowe one of the most experienced mediators in Santa Barbara. There is scarcely a type of dispute that he has not encountered in his mediation career. | |
